How to Redesign a Website Using Claude AI (Design, Code and SEO)

AI assistants like Claude can dramatically speed up a website redesign. They can audit existing pages, draft content, suggest structure, write code and check SEO basics. But they work best as a skilled collaborator, not an autopilot. This is the workflow I use and demonstrate in my tutorial.

Step 1: Audit the current website

Start by giving Claude the facts: the website's purpose, the audience, and the text of key pages. Ask it to identify what is unclear, what is missing and what might stop a visitor from contacting the business.

The goal is more appointment bookings from local families.
List the 10 biggest problems in order of impact, and suggest a fix for each.

Tip: Paste real content rather than asking the AI to "look at" a URL it may not be able to access. Better input gives better output.

Step 2: Plan the structure

Ask for a sitemap and a section-by-section outline for the homepage and key pages. Review it critically — you know the business and its customers better than any model. Remove anything generic and add what makes the business genuinely different.

Step 3: Draft the content

Use Claude to draft headlines, service descriptions and FAQs based on real information you provide. Then edit: add real examples, correct details, and make sure the voice matches the brand. Never publish claims, prices, statistics or testimonials that you have not verified.

Step 4: Define the design direction

Describe the brand personality and ask for a design system: colour palette, typography pairing, spacing scale and component styles. Ask for reasons behind each choice so you can judge them.

Step 5: Build with AI-assisted code

Claude can generate HTML, CSS and JavaScript for sections, or help you customise a theme. Work in small pieces:

1. Ask for one section at a time (e.g. the hero).
2. Test it in the browser on desktop and mobile.
3. Describe what is wrong and ask for a fix.
4. Keep the final code organised and readable.

Note: Always review AI-generated code before using it on a live site — check for accessibility, performance and security issues, and test forms thoroughly.

Step 6: SEO basics

Ask Claude to propose page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure and internal links for each page, based on the terms customers actually use. Check suggestions against Google Search Console data where you have it.

Step 7: Test before launch

• Every page on a real phone.
• Forms and contact links.
• Page speed with PageSpeed Insights.
• Redirects from old URLs to new ones, so existing rankings are protected.

Protecting your SEO during a redesign

A redesign can accidentally remove pages that bring traffic. Before changing anything, list your current URLs and their traffic from Google Search Console. Keep valuable pages (improving them rather than deleting them), and set up 301 redirects for any URL that changes. After launch, monitor Search Console for errors for several weeks.
